Marketing seemed to really become a large part of businesses during the mid 19th century in the midst of the industrial revolution. It since has evolved year after year into what it I today, the heart and sole of business. Marketing is involved in every company and is key to any companies success. Some of the tips for modern marketing include making data cleaning a routine, boosting social media content, and showing instead of telling.

The first one, keeping data cleaning a routine, is all about keeping up to date with the data you use to attract customers. It is important to know is buying products and who isn’t. Accurate numbers in data will help you to improve your corporate strategy. Not doing so can allow competitors to get ahead while you have speed bumps with underlying issues that should have already been resolved. Data is your friend, use it to your advantage.

Secondly, boosting social media content will get your brand out there faster. As social media grows larger and larger, you are already behind if you aren’t involved in it. So many consumers each day are observing and buying based off of what they saw or read about on social media. Companies should create a positive image and put there brand and how they can satisfy a need out there for the online world to see.

Finally, showing instead of telling, this means customers these days are way less patient and believe they know everything because they can google products and look them up for themselves. This is something marketers did not have to deal with in the pre internet era. If you can fulfill a need of a customer, show them how you can. They have been told far too much how there problems can be solved by salesmen without really seeing the solution. Provide a visual truth to how your product can fulfill there needs and gain there trust!

At a time in our country where supply chain issues are leading to shortages and higher prices for products, it is important to understand how the rising price in products affects buyer behavior. Will customers still buy non-essential products if the price continues to rise? For some maybe, and for other maybe not. The key role of the marketer in this situation is to create value for there customers. If the price continues to be driven up, customers with little knowledge of the product will obviously be given a good reason to be discouraged from buying. But if that product can truly provide value to there everyday lives, then the marketer should be knowledgeable of that product and point that out to them. Never the less it is still very important that companies do the best they can to make prices affordable and not overinflated. Every consumer will have their breaking point, and if they cannot get a price within their budget, the sale will not happen. These supply chain issues definitely make selling products stuck in this situation hard, but not impossible. Marketers and salespeople need to continue showing customers the value of their products and why even with rising prices why they are still beneficial.

In marketing it is fun to talk about all the things that can go right, but there are also many things that can go wrong. It is not fun to talk about, but it needs to be said. A few of the problems are limited knowledge of your audience, unclear marketing strategy, and too much focus on social media. The first of these issues, knowledge of your audience, has to do with not understanding who you are trying to sell or market too. It is very important to understand what your prospects needs are and what grabs there attention, you do not want to advertise something negative or boring to them. The second issues, unclear marketing strategy, has to do with not really having a plan in place. You need to have organization in the marketing strategy to eliminate wasted time and money. Companies that do not have organization in this aspect can be prone to collapse. Finally, having too much focus on social media, can cause you to forget the importance of a personal relationship. Yes social media can break down barriers between you and prospects, but it is still on you to get to actually know them past just a few pictures on a screen. You need to know what they prefer and how they respond to certain sales tactics. As marketers, we need to make sure we do not fall into and of these traps, and always look to improve what we are doing.
